When a developer moves a date, it is exercising or asserting a right. Identify which provision is being relied on. A letter announcing a new date without reference to any contractual basis is a different thing from a notice properly issued under an extension clause.
Extension provisions differ. Some are limited in duration, some require notice within a period, some are tied to defined causes. Whether the mechanism has been operated correctly is as relevant as whether it exists.
Where a developer relies on force majeure, it is making a factual claim as well as a contractual one. What the clause covers, and whether the circumstances fall within it, both matter.
Extension provisions are not usually unlimited in their terms. How far one reaches, and what happens when it is exhausted, is a question of construction worth answering before deciding whether to keep waiting.
Purchasers are sometimes asked to sign an addendum or revised plan recording a new date. These documents can materially change your position. Have one reviewed before signing, not after.
